Souvenirs of a Fallen Giant: Tuesdays of Texture: Aug 15, 2017

I have no idea how old the monster tree on the main road through Ajijic was when they cut it down a few days ago, but it was the largest in the two walls of trees that separate the carretera from the two lateral roads that run through town on either side of it. I’m saving photos of the main tree for the Sunday Trees prompt, but the chips left on the ground have a beauty all their own—just right for Tuesdays of Texture.

About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

Was the wood usable? When they cut down the 40 yr old mahogany in front of our house I got to save a bit to dry and hopefully make a table of chair later.

Love the wood texture 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing!

I’m sure they use every scrap of wood. Several furniture artists make slab wood furniture and people still buy wood here for fuel so all the scraps will be used as well. Not much winds up as garbage in Mexico. Most things are used, repaired or recycled.
