This quote says succinctly what I have been saying to friends lately. I no longer feel the push to travel but would rather stay home and think and write. At first this made me feel old and then I started to realize that it is in the natural order of things to seek and then reflect. It is not just a question of energy, but more a matter of the direction of one’s curiosity. The more I traveled, the more I found that things do not vary that much. I agree. People are people and will be the same where ever we go. But sometimes it’s nice to see different scenery.

I would not be so content to stay home if I hadn’t traveled widely all my life. I agree with you..and I think it is important for as many people as possible to travel abroad to have cemented into their minds the richness of diversity and the knowledge that all people are important and deserving of nourishment and security–not just those born into our own homeland.

I agree that people are basically the same everywhere. Kip and I always imagine ourselves living in the towns we travel through. I’m still enjoying the road trips because there is so much I haven’t seen before.
