Okay, this goes so well with my earlier post of Southern Discomfort that I have to reblog it. Thanks, Joyfultobeeblogs for bringing it to my attention.
BWAHAHHAHHA!! Now, sans the southern accent there y’all and the booze, that coulda been filmed in Utah (especially really small towns). Bless yer heart for sharin’ it.
Dead on and hilarious! We do say all those things and many more besides down here in the South. Now if she’d just post similar videos from the Eastern seaboard, the Midwest, the Northwest, the Pacific Northwest, and Southern California. I’m sure every geographic region has humorous colloquialisms.
Eh hem. :::stands up straighter::: I’m a northern girl. If anything I have a bit of a California accent, so I’ve been told, and I don’t know what that means. I’ve lived in the South, and bordering the South, enough to have heard what was said on the video. Enough that I sometimes use the very useful y’all. So it is creek. Stream. And there ain’t no duuurned hollers.
No. No hollers in “South” Dakota, either, although my mother had a few in her past in Missouri. I am so sorry for taking it for granted that your knowledge of southern vernacular branded you a native of that region. I know we northern girls have our pride as well!!!
Odessa native pride themselves on Odessa being the place where the concept of humor was invented! Ovid was exiled to the Northern part of Black Sea and spent the first two weeks of his exile in a little village where Odessa now stands. There he started “Metamorphoses” “Letters from the Black Sea” were written later, when he settled in what is now Romania.
The most famous Russian satirists, comedians, and humorous songwriters originated from Odessa, as well as an actual annual holiday of humor “Humorina” – appropriately on April 1st.

Yep.. Works in South Dakota, too. Maybe that’s why they called it “South” Dakota. Did/do you say “crick” instead of creek?

Hilarious! Showed it to my husband who grew up in New Orleans, and he almost fell off the chair.

He needs very little to start cracking up; after all, we are both from Odessa. This one truly hit the spot, though!
