If They Cancel Halloween

If they cancel Halloween, what will take its place?
How else can we “do” Trick or Treat except by face-to-face?
How will we get our portion of popcorn balls and Snickers?
What will replace the sheeted ghosts, the jack-o-lantern flickers?
How will we end the week if  Halloween is skipped?
No more spooky music and no tales of the crypt.
No bats taped to the window, no chance to utilize
that cool floating ghost we bought with glowing lit-up eyes?
What will replace the magic? What am I going to do
with my zombie outfit that the world will never view

if they cancel Halloween? The whole world population
will sit alone All Hallow’s Eve, in their consternation
binging on the Mars Bars, Skittles and other goodies
meant for kids in costumes, obscured by masks or hoodies.
Forever, we’ll remember the year the world turned mean—
In two thousand twenty, when they cancelled Halloween!!!

Prompt words today are week, utilize, crypt, portion, magic, Halloween and bat

About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

Luckily, they haven’t cancelled the spooky movies. If anything, they have gone all out in the spooky movie department. So we are soiid on Dracula (saw that the other night on TCM) and I think we actually have copies of Wolfman and all the oldie moldy classics. But unless we go buy it, we ARE out of candy. Everyone was getting fat, so baking has been postponed until we all lose some weight!

Same here. Have you seen the movie “What We Do in The Shadows?” It is a xcream..a group of vampires from all different eras sharing an apartment in new Zealand. I don’t like the TV show as much as the movie.

My daughter and husband are planning to hide candy in their yard and send the kids out with flashlights to find it. We will dress up (as our dogs….) and visit them with Halloween treats like “Ghosts in the Graveyard.” We have to find our fun this year, alas.

That’s so cool. I hope you take photos. You are dressing up your dogs or dressing up as your dogs?? That’s a wonderful idea hiding the candy, like at halloween.

It’s so hard on the children. Cooped up and away from their friends! And now Halloween? How can you tell a little one that trick o’treating is cancelled. There must be a way to safely enjoy this night with them. Even on a more limited basis.
