When we first saw this gorgeous prickly pear, the flowers were fully spread like camelias, but by the time we got back several hours later and I photographed them, they had folded into roses. Just gorgeous. Be sure to click on photos to enlarge.
Beautiful~! I want some pink ones like that. Mine are all the yellow ones, but I have two types The regular and Nopas, (no thorns). I will try to find some here,
I love ocotillo with their bare stalks suddenly blooming. But I have had bad luck with them here, but only about a hundred miles west from here they do OK. Cactus is easy to start, just push a pad butt first in the ground and it will have the same flowers.
These are GORGEOUS and look so healthy. Believe it or not, MI has prickly pear cactus, but it looks nothing like this. It grows in the sand out by Lake MI.
After looking at other photos of a fully open flower, I realize that I have (nipple cactus) on the next level up from my house, with similar color and looks. But I still am looking for a prickly pear of that color. Bet I find them before you~! Unless you steal a pad from her,,, wrap it up, and sneak it home.

Will try to find some to plant in Mexico. Also an Ocotillo. Their beautiful orange flames are sprouting up here as well.

I am very law-abiding when it comes to customs.. fear no plants will be taken home.
