The Doggone Doggie Blues: dVerse Poets

The Doggone Doggie Blues

The naughty dogs who leave their marks when jumping up on me.
The naughty bruises that remain, spreading their stains on me.
I cannot stop this rudeness. I cannot find the means.
I cannot stop their tugging at my blouse sleeves and my jeans.

Unruly little denizens of my humble home,
they range wherever they may choose on terrace and on dome.
They jump up in the hammock when I choose to swing.
They jump up on my visitors to see what they might bring.

They dig into my planters and eat the tasty loam.
They even dig into my sleep to bring their mother home
from dreams where she evades them, living her own life
away from doggie pressures, away from doggie strife.

What pleasures might she find anew living all alone?
What pleasures might they miss for which her conscience would atone?
All in all, they make up for the problems that they bring.
All in all, their lonesome howls to sirens are the thing
that swell her heart and make her want to join along and sing.

I wrote this for the dVerse poets Anaphora/Epiphora prompt, but unfortunately missed the deadline. Been there before, will be there again, no doubt. At any rate, here it is for the world at large!

But, just had a brainstorm and posted it on the dVerse Poets Open Link Night, where we can post any poem on any topic. Tardy but still within the law!. Here is a link to others who published poems for Open Link Night.

I must admit that not all of those bruises were caused by doggies, although every time Diego reaches up and puts his paws on my arm I do get bruised. Some of these are caused by bumps and scrapes bougainvilleas. I am such a delicate flower.

When I saw that photo of your arm, what went through my mine was: “how did she get a photo of my arm~??
My left arm looks exactly the same~! I must take blood thinner pills and bruise very easily. But only my left arm, now it took a while for me to figure out why.. There was the answer. Sometimes on a trip I allow her to sit (or actually stand) on my left arm to look out MY window and get a little breeze. I am afraid to let her do it on her side of the car, she is so small she might go flying out the window~! Now she only weighs 10 pounds but a little 1 inch paw with all ten pounds behind it can really cause a nice paw bruise~! “bad dog, bad dog~!” love them to death~!..

“Being Old is pretty easy, you just feel tired all the time and tell people about how tired you are, and they tell you about how tired they are~!” I must add showing your bruises, cat scratch, spot where the dog jumped on your leg, and where the branch you cut fell right on that spot on top of your foot that hurts so damn much…..the last one happened to me yesterday…. Women like to tell terrible stories about other women, men like to tell stories how they got a scar on their finger or a bump on their head.

You know that I have places on my computer where I file poems that I like, from others , you have a few in there. I also have a place with wildly funny clippings, sayings, cartoons and personal brain storms or funny thoughts that I have. Most of these “jokes” I place on my Facebook; my favorite is “ideas for a post or poem”. Looking for the above quote this morning, I thought wow, I need to post some of these to my blog. I would have people starting their day with a great laugh, thought, or inspiration. Maybe a daily continuing inspiration post. I still have not figured how to post a jpeg on a reply, if this were possible, the above post could be a great continuation.

Okay, I think I need to post a picture of the wounds and scabs on my on my hands and arms that my cat bestows upon me with his razor sharp claws if I dare to ignore him when I’m reading the morning paper. There will be blood!

Having had dogs all my life until moving to Boston, I so understand the joy and companionship they bring! We can forgive many faults when they look up at us with those eyes 🙂 GLad you finally got this posted….although now it appears twice. No problem, I’ll just delete one from Mr. Linky. Sorry you had so many problems….the bane of technology and Mr. Linky, although personified, is still technology!

Diego sneaked into the kitchen yesterday while I was entertaining company on the terrace and knocked the covered Talavera butter dish off the counter and ate an entire stick of butter. BAD BOY!!!!

I went to four places looking for another butter dish today. Finally got one I’m not crazy about but that’s life. I’m sure there are more important tragedies in this world than a broken butter dish.
