Her rag doll image
rejects the girls room twitters,
counts to five and says hello
to the new girl she sees
in the mirror who doesn’t care.
The dVerse Poets prompt is to write a Wayra poem. The elements of the Wayra are:
1. a pentastich, a poem in 5 lines.
2. syllabic, 5-7-7-6-8
3. unrhymed.
A further request is to use onomatopoeia.
Since I’m addicted to writing to prompts, I am randomly choosing prompt words for myself as well: by letting my eyes fall randomly on words on this page or my desktop. Here are the prompt words: twitter, count, image, hello, rag, rejects.
This is a powerful poem Judy.

Thanks Sadje. Although the poem isn’t about her, the photo is one I took of my niece when she was visiting me. We were in an antique/resale shop and I saw her reflection in a prism. I love this photo and have used it at least 3 or 4 times in the years since then. It seemed to work for this poem better than any others I could think of.

Well very interesting about the ude of prompt words, and a poem that brings forth a certain anxiety then defiance…well done..

It has really changed my life, Ain. It takes away the angst of having to decide what to write about or what to say next. You just let the words float in your mind and a poem comes out.

this is so relevant at our time with such anxiety and seeing without really seeing.

That’s an interesting writing process. The mirror is a great imagery. And your photo is striking as well.

This hits hard … then rebounds with new girl in the room. I love it. And the image that captures the essence of your Wayra.
