Memories of Loves Past
To improve those ancient feelings regarding love that’s past—
all of those sad endings for love that didn’t last—
relate the facts as comedy. Banter about life’s failings.
Laughter serves you better than retroactive wailings!
Actually, the past love I’m fighting sad feelings about today is the 22 year old Royal Poinciana tree that they are cutting down today. It had root rot and was in danger of falling so it had to be done. So, unbeknownst to me, I gave myself good advice in writing this poem which started out to be about love of another variety. Here is the tree in all its former glory:
Prompt words today are ancient, improve, feelings, related, banter.
It was a beautiful tree.

Trees are family. Will you buy another one to replace this poor unfortunate one?

I can’t because they say a new one would become infested as well
There is a golden shower tree next to it that will no doubt fill in the space it leaves.

Maybe leave it vacant for a year so whatever it was that gave it rot clears out? Or maybe it was susceptible to rot because of its age? If you loved the tree maybe plant a small seedling and see what happens?

No the tree experts say not to plant another tree of that variety in that spot, but there is another tree there that is quite large that is beautiful which will soon fill out to fill the space.

I could not hit like for this, though it was a very good poem, but your after thoughts were what was sad to me. A smelly woman who lives up the road from me flipped out a cigarette and started a bad fire that took the life of a beautiful Red bud that was growing near the road.. I have a photo of Shirley standing by that same tree with our dog Bijou, “Beegee”. She was our beautiful loving dog before Tami, and now I am sad when I go near where all three stood because they are no longer with me…….ps: she also set her house on fire when she went to sleep with another cigarette, lost everything.

Oh, I hate when trees need to be cut down, but I do love your poem, so true!

Thanks, Tiffany…It is now gone and the other tree has spread out to take its place. I’ll post a photo.

How sad — but your poem is perfect! I’m glad there’s another tree to fill the space, although there’s nothing that can replace a poinciana tree!

I’ll plant one elsewhere, Janet, and dedicate it to you.

Ooh, thank you — my very own poinciana tree! That might even be the impetus for me to come for a visit?!

How sad. Such a beautiful tree. What causes root rot in these trees?

It was a fungus. There were beautiful huge mushrooms growing out of the base of the tree.

We have a beloved tree that needs taking down too. It’s dying. Bugs and quite possibly age. It used to shade our deck and bloom in the spring. Now, it has just a few tiny branches with andy leaves and it’s full of woodpecker holes. Of course with all those bugs in it, it’s the bird’s favorite tree. They all go to munch on the insects. Yummy!

Sorry about your tree – and, if appropriate, the other love

Don’t you hate it when people say, “I feel your pain.” Me, too! Yet, especially this time it is ever so true. That tree never hurt anybody. On the contrary. It was revivifying.

When they were removing the tree, they found a big olla that had a whole litter of baby possums in it! They are still there…
