I was just Skyping Forgottenman and he commented on the massive thunder there.
I remarked that at least that meant no snow and said I wondered why it never thundered before a snowstorm.
He answered that it did. Thundersnow.
At which point I had to look it up and sure enough, this is what I discovered thanks to Google:
thun·der·snow
/ˈTHəndərˌsnō/
noun
-
snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
“thundersnow happens in Iowa about once every winter”
Gobsmacked. How can I have never heard of this? Had any of you heard of it?
I’m really surprised you had not heard of it!

I want to know if those reading this have or am I the only weather-ignorant blogger here?

I’ve heard of thundersnow, but the likelihood of ever seeing it is very slim —

Have you ever seen it? It seems to me that it must be weather changing its mind! ;o)

I’ve rarely seen snow — usually in the mountains at Christmases in the 1970’s! It was nothing like the snow that falls these days, and even the rainstorms were less violent then than they are now. This is the first year that I’ve seen much lightning, and I had only heard of thundersnow in the last 5 years or so!

Lived my first 37 years in Kansas where we had lots of thunderstorms and lots of snow, but I never heard of thundersnow. Just shows we are never too old to learn something new! Rita

Glad to know it is a new concept for at least one other person, Rita.

Yes, I think I first heard of thundersnow last winter. Brings to mind Game of Thrones for me.
