A wizard in the kitchen, she performed well her thaumaturgy
by transforming porridge into fine cuisine for me.
Each dish she served just seemed my hunger to inflate
as she put spells on my stomach and magic on my plate.
Her stew pot made by blood boil, her milk pudding made me purr,
every single dish a symbol of my love for her.
Then lying in her oaken bed, my hunger still intact,
She finally quenched my appetite. And that, folks, is a fact!!!!!
Prompt words today are: oak, intact, stomach, thaumaturgy, symbol and porridge.
*Pronounced thaw’ muh tour gee, with the accent on the first syllable, thaumaturgy is the performance of miracles; specifically : magic.
Say hey, good lookin’ – what ya got cookin’?
How’s about cookin’ somethin’ up with me?
Hey, sweet baby – don’t you think maybe
We can find us a brand new recipe?
I got a hot rod Ford, and a two dollar bill
And I know a spot right over the hill
There’s soda pop and the dancing’s free
So if you wanna have fun, come along with me
Say hey, good lookin’ – what ya got cookin’?
How’s about cooking somethin’ up with me?
I’m free and ready, so we can go steady
How’s about savin’ all your time for me?
No more lookin’, I know I been tookin’
Hows about keepin’ steady company?
I’m gonna throw my date book over the fence
And buy me one for five or ten cents
I’ll keep it till it’s covered with age
Cause I’m writin’ your name down on every page
Say hey, good lookin’ – what ya got cookin’?
How’s about cookin’ somethin’ up with me?
Wonderful!

I love Hank Williams. His music transports me back to being a little girl in my parent’s 55 Ford on the road to some place when we were in range of a radio station in those long stretches of emptiness that is/was the American west. Very cool poem. Nice twist at the end. 😀

Me too, Martha. I still know the lyrics to most of the songs of that era. my sister and her friend would perform plays in our back yard and this is one of the songs they sang. Do you remember “If You Turn Me Down?” (I’ll go off on a Mountain. (or was it Missouri?)..And I’ll buy me a mule, a mule with great big ears, to tell my troubles to…..” In another verse, it was “I’ll go off to Alaska.” I can’t find the lyrics anywhere on the internet, but I think Rosemary Clooney sang it. I loved that song.

I don’t remember those songs! I did think of another memory, though. About 1/2 block from my grandma’s house in Billings was the Red Barn, a dance club, and as I went to sleep in her living room (I was really little) I could hear the songs. More magic. I distinctly remember “Honky-tonkin'”

Did you see that Forgottenman found the song “If You Turn Me Down?” He posted it in comments. Bet you recognize it when you hear it.

That’s great! I never heard it before (as far as I can remember). It describes my “relationship” with “the man” perfectly. We’re both singing it. 🤣

I remember that song. I would have had no place to hear them except on the radio as we didn’t have TV yet and no clubs in my small town.
