Thanks, Judy. As I was working on this, I read Sara Genn’s letter about ‘flats’ http://painterskeys.com/to-be-flat/
and I realized that the challenge would be to keep those red and yellow flat areas from getting fussy, by adding details that would suggest bougainvillea. How to maintain the integrity of this as an abstract combination of colors and textures, while still referring to the flowers that inspired the work?
I used to get Robert Genn’s newsletters..Thanks for sending this one. You are such an interesting mixture of right and left brain, Carol. I don’t know why things work–I just have a sort of intuition about whether they work or not. I have another friend–a wonderful photographer– who is very left-brained about her photography and giving instruction and it is very interesting to me to read and try to follow the instructions she gives…Then I just go right back to clicking and nudging until it feels right. Ha.
