One Word Photo Challenge: Hot

Can’t get any hotter than this globo (hot air balloon) falling from the sky over Ajijic, Mexico.

The admittedly augmented hot lamp was in Morehouse, Missouri.  Can’t blame a girl for cheating to meet a prompt.

These may not be the hottest chilis on your plate,

DSC09567DSC09190but I can attest to the fact that it was HOT both days I took these two pictures at the beach.

I’m not there either, if that’s any consolation. I was there Nov. 15-Jan. 15 and will be back next Jan. Thanks for the view and comment, dorann….

It is an incredible spectacle with most of the balloons catching on fire and falling into the crowd, small boys rushing to stomp out the grass fires, electrical lines and trees and rooftops catching on fire. Mexico is in love with fire and danger.

The thrill of dodging fiery globes falling from the sky is still one of my favorite memories of Mexico.

Damn! Spell check switched my globos, above to globes, and now has tried to do it again, but I outfoxed them.

I’ve captured other images of these falling hot air balloons, most of which ignite and fall within minutes of launch, but never at the precise time and distance where I could actually see the ashes aloft as well. They are not manned, by the way. Some have expressed worries about injuries. There don’t even seem to be many injuries among the crowds they fall down upon. Viva Mexico!!!

Now that you mentioned it I remembered your post for Mustard. I knew I’d seen these before, just forgot it was on your blog! haha – I’m sure it wouldn’t still be done if there were too many injuries – seems like a fun celebration, not something you see everyday.
