Interesting Objects: Nature’s Art

The first tiny sculptureĀ  of a bear attached to a branch of driftwood is exactly as I found it on a branch on the beach. I haven’t colored or shaped it in any manner. Nature’s sculpture. The second photo is of a lamp made of elements found in nature by my husband, Bob Brown. The shade of handmade paper made from tree bark and liana was made by me.

Beach Bomb

I was at my favorite beach–La Manzanilla, in Mexico, minding my own business, enjoying a wonderful sunset, when I came upon this man sitting in a chair out in the surf–sipping a margarita!Ā  I made a passing remark as I passed, and the next thing I knew, he was leaving his chair, pulling me over to it, sitting me down and handing me his margarita. “Give me your camera,” he said. “I’ll take your photo.”Ā  As he did, I didn’t really notice the woman out in the surf, but by the time he’d snapped a couple of photos, she had made her appearance–and, yup, bombed my photo! She gave us a back view, too, but figured none of the guys would want to see it.

Mykonos

Mykonos is a city of light and wind. Citizens are required to whitewash their houses three times a year and color police enforce the color restrictions. Narrow winding streets were a deterrent to marauding pirates and they did a good job of deterring me as well. We were perpetually lost. The wrapped pipes (white, of course) reminded me of African masks. It was obvious to us all why Mykonos isĀ  noted for its windmills, as constant gusty winds helped to cool down the otherwise hot day. Shopping galore, but I resisted the $1500 blouse and instead photographed the resident reigning cat in her royal wicker chair. No dogs were in evidence, but this black cat welcomed us to shore from her comfortable spot under the shade of a concrete bench. A lovely end to our last day of the cruise. Tomorrow we arise at 6 to go to Athens to catch our separate planes to Chicago.Ā  We overnight there and then I head back to Guadalajara, my sister back to Sheridan.

Means of Transportation

From Giant Rubber Duckies and dolphins to drones. From big cars to toy trucks, boats to front-end loaders, horses to wings, everything in the world has a way to move itself around.

A Sandy Congregation

I love what congregates around the sea.ā€”not the open sea. Rather, where it meets the land. (Photos will enlarge when you click on them.)

IĀ love sand and the things it collects: seashells, jellyfish, sand dollars, starfish, puff fish, sand pipers, sea turtles and even the people who collect at the beach.Ā  It is like they have retreated as far as possibleā€“the next step is either a boat or drowning!Ā  They tend to be individuals, slightly oddā€“kind of like the people from the western world who congregate in third world locales like Africa.Ā  Perhaps they are this ageā€™s pioneers or trappers.

Oh yes.Ā  I do love the oceanside, the beach.Ā  Salt. Sand.Ā  I love what collects above the beach as well: frigate birds and pelicans, ibises, sun, moon, clouds.Ā  Above are some of the thousands of images of the beach Iā€™ve collected over the past ten years or so.

I would have to say that my muse is the seaā€“but not the open sea. Rather, where it meets the land.

I admit, this is a reblog of photos from three years ago. The prompt word today was congregate.

La Manzanilla Sunset, Feb 11, 2018
