WhatsApp Doc? (Three Years Hence)

I must admit three years ago,
my blog was going rather slow.
I labored hours for paltry views.
My “follows” came by ones or twos.

I thought that if I never bored,
I’d be the blog that all adored.
The world would wind up at my door
begging me for even more!

I wrote about what piqued my interest
without ever joining “Pinterest;”
and when it came to using “Twitter,”
I must admit, I was a quitter.

The fact that I’ve attained no fame?
I only have myself to blame.
With “Instagram” beyond my grasp,
my social chain has no real clasp.

I thought my blog was doing fine,
though I’d not heard about the “Vine.”
I fear I was a “Snapchat” dunce.
“Tumbir?” I’d heard it mentioned once.

“MeetMe,” “ Omegie,” “Skout” or “Tinder?”
These sites to meet the other gender
simply were beyond my ken.
(I wasn’t very savvy then.)

I did not “Whisper,” but only talked.
When it came to “Yik Yak,” this girl balked.
Since my chats did not have any “Snap.”
No need for “Burn Note” as an app.

I was, I fear, real out of it.
Somehow, I did not seem to fit.
I did not find such apps amusing.
These sites I merely found confusing.

Instead, I chose to merely blog.
Like rolling off of any log,
I found it easier to do––
to merely stage a minor coup.

And that is why I still plod on.
Why even now I have not gone
viral on the Internet
or become a global pet.

The followers I have, I love.
They fit as well as any glove.
I read them and they read me,
existing symbiotically.

So this is how we’ve all gone on––
sending thoughts from here to yon––
forming friendships as we go,
even though we’re sort of slow!

About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

Thanks, Ngobesing. I added a message for other bloggers and viewers after you read my blog. I just expressed appreciation for all the wonderful people I’ve met blogging over the past three years. Thanks for being one of them!

Merry Christmas Eve, Judy, to you and yours. I Skype (with far family) and I’m on Facebook just so my kids don’t go stealin’ cars (and/or so I can embarrass them with my lame humor while keeping in instant touch),but other than these, blogging is my medicine of choice. 🙂

Sometimes I think the secret to life is to be half there. To not embrace any course fully, but to retain a relaxing balance. I guess I need to examine what I’ve just written..but I’m thinking of it in terms of the internet and modern life in general. Not fully sure what I mean by this myself, but perhaps something I need to examine.

Wonderful! I could relate to a few things for sure – but u really layer a lot that we all go through as we select the social outlets we favor – all layered in your flowing use of rhyme and thoughtful stanzas!

I haven’t blogged for a bit, but try to read your great verses anyway. I’m struggling to reinstall my printer which used to be ok, but having a hard time of it. Thought without 10 my life would be sane, but now I’m having troubles again. Ho hum, and very lack a day; someone please send those 3 wishes my way.

Okay, Barbwit…I changed my mind. You get the wishes. I’m having problems with my printers as well..I think the cheap cartridges are to blame. Bought more to take home with me. We’ll see how they do.

My sister just dropped me off at the airport. We went to see the movie “Joy” on the way. Don’t bother to see it. It is a horrible movie. Writing is terrible. Acting okay but the movie itself is frustrating and unenjoyable.
