Freshly “Found”

Here are a few of the found art wall pieces I’ve just completed.  They are all constructed of material collected on the beach of La Manzanilla during morning walks.

Muchas gracias. Do you think the turtle is growing wings or the duck is regretting evolving and wishing he could return to an earlier stage? I know, I know. Ducks probably didn’t evolve from turtles, but I believe I’m allowed a bit of artistic and poetic license.

You are operating fully within your licensing requirements. As I see it, the evolved, aging (larger) bird looks back down with some nostalgia at her predecessor, as her (turtle) predecessor looks forward, up to what she will become. They are both mature, and so have come to understand and value the passage of time, and of the changes that time brings. That young whippersnapper bird up there in the corner hasn’t gotten there yet. He only looks forward. His connection with the past is only in his future.

Ms Beachcomber, You and my sister in Vancouver (BC) would enjoy each other; she is the creative one in our family, so I send her boxes of bits and pieces I collect.Makes writing the customs form a pain (“How many bottle caps?”)

Ha!!! I love this. Sending her bottlecaps through the mail. You have the right priorities, my dear. Kurt Vonnegut said it all: “We were put in this world to fart around.”

          Oh yes please do.

Hopefully by the end of the day I’ll have 4 or 5 more pieces.. I’ve been assembling them for 2 months but hate to commit to gluing them down…ha. Time runnng out though so I’m doing it, and for most totally changing what I’d planned to do.

There are dozens and dozens of people from Vancouver who come here to La Manzanilla in the winter by the way. Many more Canadians than U.S. citizens and most from the west coast.

Su doesn’t travel any more; sent her son & family to my 80th without her. So you’d have to go to Vancouver or Skype or e-mail. She’s a bit shyer online than I am.But I send her some of your great found pics which she enjoys.

Thanks, Marilyn. I went collecting again today and found some missing pieces. I should get to work on them and neglect this blog a bit…Perhaps I shall.

They are so much fun to do. I am working on horses, an elephant, have finished one with a small dog, half of a chewed up thong shoe and three oyster shells in the shapes of hearts entitled “I Miss My Dogs.” I do… and still think of them every single morning when I wake up. But–I like the freedom for this short period of thinking only of myself each day. Mom’s holiday. I have loved being at the beach this time. Went in a flash. Only 5 more days, then a day to pack up the car, then drive 5 hours home. It’s been a good run.
