Summer
Days spread like an Indian blanket in the grass
and those carnival nights.
Anxious sorties into unknown parts of town.
Feeling my number up as the wild sisters
kicked me all the way home
to what they called my posh neighborhood.
Yearned-for months
let out of school,
my continuing education.
The prompts today were posh, number, carnival and anxious.

Ha.. The event related was true. I went for the first time to visit a friend on the other side of town and two sisters whose names I remember well but that I won’t repeat here, asked me what I was doing in their neighborhood and chased me down the street, kicking me in the behind every time they caught up with me. I was terror-stricken and a bit disillusioned re/ traveling in strange parts for awhile, but that didn’t last long.
