Sometimes it takes an outside eye to find the subtle beauties that we miss in our own hometowns. Judy/Remi has so wonderfully, wonderously captured what I’ve missed in my town!
A couple of Judy’s posts ago I talked in comments about my experiences with Halloween — I think those comments perhaps go a long way to explaining my reaction to this shot. I’m not into terror in any way, and never got into the “spirit” side of Halloween (ghouls, goblins, ghosts, etc.), even as a kid (perhaps a lack of imagination?). To me, the pumpkin simply expresses the loneliness of the doll in a very sad way.
I find it sad too, Janet. And.. I published a photo of forgottenman’s front door just for you in the “walk” post.. Did you notice? It is the last photo. You had inquired about it.
An interesting shot of the pumpkin — the connection between the doll and the expression on the pumpkin is what drew me to it — how lonely, how sad! Thanks, Judy — I did notice the front door. As you said, quite an ordinary front door, for all the beauty around it.
I have the same feelings about the doll and pumpkin that you did, Janet. Tomorrow or Sunday, I’ll publish a photo of the whole front of the house with door and it makes even more of a statement.
Reblogged this on serial monography: forgottenman's ruminations and commented:

Wonderful decorations! The shed tells a story of its own, and I love the spider webs! And that last shot is so sad ~ ~ ~

Janet, I’m fascinated that you find the last shot sad. I find it appropriately terrifying for the season!

A few people exercised a fine hand in assembling those decorations.
