That’s a beautiful bird, Judy! I love his coloration! But the water is so yellow — is that a reflection of the composition of the lake bottom?

It was grayer than this but the bird didn’t stand out, so I changed the color of the background a bit. It picks up its color from the sky so goes from silver to green to blue. No. Not usually brown.

Little Green Heron~? Beautiful photo Judy~! I have never seen a photo where the full color of the plumage is as vibrant as yours~! In fact this is the best I have seen…it should be published as many experts have not caught the sun right to show its true colors.
Janet, this is a very pretty, smaller bird, than your great blue herons and though his neck looks shorter here, he has the ability to elongate it out a bit farther, though not as long as the blue.
Our home in Houston backed up to Buffalo Bayou and a bird sanctuary. We were lucky to have this small heron nesting near us. Thanks for the memories, it has been a long time….
Do they make it all the way down to you~?
Thanks

They do. This photo was taken at Lake Chapala.

We get white pelicans from Canada and other birds from all over the states that winter here and some that stay year round, like the herons.

Sam says it is a green heron. I think he’s right.
