Monday Pet Peeve: Junk Mail

Blogger Paula Light from Light Motifs II just posted her Monday Pet Peeve and invited us to voice ours. Hers was about ads on Facebook. Mine is about JUNK MAIL. Read on to hear my peeve.

Strange, but I’ve never seen an ad on Facebook. My peeve is email. I am besieged by so much junk mail that I can’t find my real mail. It is driving me crazy. Aside from the scams, which are getting increasingly harder to distinguish from the real thing, the worst are the political notices…hundreds a day, all asking for money. I believe in the causes but am literally spending hours a day ridding myself of all of the notices. I send money and immediately have five or six others requesting more––even from the campaign I just contributed to. The result is that I am just going through every few hours and erasing them all, which of course defeats the purpose of informing us of issues, but if I didn’t, I would literally spend every moment of every day reading bad news, and is this how we want to spend our lives? There must be some solution short of burying one’s head in the sand. There used to be a button to ban a sender from one’s email but I no longer can find such a button. Okay. Rave over.

About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

I cannot find that function on my mail anymore. I’ve looked and looked. And my tech guy says with the scams, they just change their email and continue sending. It would be good for the legit but pesty ones, though. If you know how to do so on hotmail, please clue me in. It has vanished…

Click on the three dots on the top of the page and the drop down menu with show you the options. I usually click on phishing and then block/ report sender. If we keep on doing it, one day they’ll stop sending them. I usually get log of spam on my Hotmail address but none on my gmail account.

You, me, and EVERYONE. We are all deluged by it. You unsubscribe and I swear they start sending double the amount. I lose important mail because I give up and do mass deletes hoping there was nothing important in there. Up here, the hospital we work with believes you need to be REPEATEDLY reminded of upcoming appointments, so they email you and call you on the phone half a dozen times in the 10 days before your appointment. They call REALLY EARLY too.

I don’t have that problem. I don’t know why. Maybe once upon a time I did something right… My pet peeve is summer. We’re a week in now and only 11 more to go. BUT the final 3 of that 11 are usually pretty nice.
