Petunia: for FOTD July 26, 2023

The popular name for this flower is “Seaside Petunia.” Ironic, because I photographed it in Sheridan, Wyoming.  Looks like something has been chewing on the bottom flower. Rabbits, perhaps? There is always one in the yard there.

I decided to research the matter, and this is what I discovered:
“Fortunately, petunias are a totally safe food for rabbits, and most rabbits absolutely love them and will eat them by the handful. Rabbits tend to be keen on eating flowers, so if you let your bunny roam free in your garden, be aware that it is likely to nibble at least a few of the pretty petals.” HERE is the source for this information.

But my rabbits are at least four feet tall with their ears sticking straight up and can actually run faster than Tami. But if you ever get a chance to watch one of them eating your petunias you will need to be very fast, but it is interesting, you see they actually have three lips~! Yes I said that correctly, and when you see this terrible word used in children it is not hair lips the word is actually hare lips, after the rabbit~! We learn something new every day don’t we~?

Glenda, I initially thought it was the reflection of a woman in a red dress walking away in a vase that held the flowers! Later I couldn’t see it, but that was my initial reaction and the reason it attracted my interest.

They are making good progress on my friend’s grass and clover as well. No rabbits in my part of Mexico but the ground squirrels manage to do away with a lot of foliage. Not in my yard, though, as the dogs keep it squirrel-free, so I planted lots of plants below on my spare lot for them.
