MORNING LINES I start again at the break of day to ascertain what I will say. What dreams have taught will have its way. I cannot throw night thoughts away.
The W3 prompt this week was to write a poem incorporating 2 or 3 lines of Leonard Cohen’s song, Anthem. The lines I chose are: “At the break of day”and “Start again.” My poem is above. Here are Cohen’s lyrics:
Anthem’ lyrics
The birds they sang
At the break of day
Start again
I heard them say
Don't dwell on what has passed away
Or what is yet to be
Ah, the wars they will be fought again
The holy dove, she will be caught again
Bought and sold, and bought again
The dove is never free
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in

Leonard Cohen is my favorite and this is among my favorites of his, along with “Hallelujah.”

Very nicely done. Yesterday was strange in that I woke up after having so many different dreams and yet even though I was awake I was confused by all that had been going on in my mind.

I hate it that I lose my memory of my dreams so quickly. For years I wrote them down but no longer. I have books full of dreams..

Thanks, Pankaj. On a couple of occasions, I wake up in the process of composing a poem with the last line still in my head as I come to consciousness..Weird…

I love this. Especially:
“I cannot throw
night thoughts away.”
That happens to me very often.

I think even if I am not conscious of them, that they still influence my moods for the next day. I wake up thinking something over and over.. worrying about it, perhaps. Something I’ve tucked away that my subconscious decides I should deal with.

That happens to me too…those fleeting images keep popping up, discontinuous but vivid. (K)
