“The Big Empty”, for the Cosmic Photo Challenge: Wide Open Spaces

These are all photos of  the country around Murdo, South Dakota, where I grew up.  First, Interstate 90 which cut through the edge of the town, and the country just to the west of  town. The third and fourth photos are of the last piece of land my sister and I owned there which we sold a few years ago. It had once contained the last house my parents lived in  there which had since blown away in a tornado. Do these qualify as wide open spaces???

About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

These definitely qualify as wide open spaces. I suspect I-90 grants views of wide open spaces A LOT across its 3,000 mile stretch! And I agree with Dale; that golden glow is fabulous. ~Ed.

A resounding yes to these wide open spaces! I really miss the long open views of farmland along one road where I grew up. Every time I returned to visit my parents, I hoped the fields were still there and not bought up to be turned into yet one more housing development. I can feel myself relax just looking at your photos and remembering my own wide open views.

Absolutely! I have a thing about wide open spaces. I’ve spent most of this week exiled from them and it was very claustrophobic. I-90 cuts its way a lot of wide open spaces.

For myself? Yuppers! Those qualify for wide open spaces – but then, I’m ‘biased’ cuz I grew up in wide open spaces too, that keep changing and morphing, but never have, ever, adjusted fully to living where I I can’t see the horizon far away – even if not at the edge of a large and mighty ocean – simply – a horizon filled, with empty roads, pastures, fencelines and monuments of mother nature somewhere – in the vast, far from me, space – 😀

The Eastern Plains of Colorado – I’ll ‘tag’ ya and put right in front of your face, a blog post I’m doing with pictures and short words (like you do so WELL!) as I try whip out, short form, for others – appreciation for others, here, and just say, “for you – I heard ya/saw what yur heart sees” etc., because, at end of the day? Once, long ago? You did a whole photo collage/share, of ‘feet’ and the beauty of such things – and tagged me! So, um, I guess, my sacred duty to return the favor of “I SEE/HEAR YA! Here’s what it sounds like, looks like, where I am….” 😀

Where in Colorado? I went to college in Laramie and did the trip from there to Denver a lot. Also to Breckenridge and other mountain spots and Colorado Springs, Grand Junction, Manitou Springs, Pueblo to Taos..Did I go through any of your country?

I will post a round up – of that of which you know – and why, on the other had, “Um, we may not be related by blood, but these, here, are my family/my kin in the world” – LOL
P.S, – Do you remember long ago, when YOU WROTE this, for me…at Christmas Time when I needed some cheer?

I had forgotten that post, TamrahJo, but i was looking for the photo of the shoe hanging off my toe and like magic, you led me to it. I read a bunch of poems about body parts at a reading yesterday and folks were urging me to do a book of body parts poems and I thought it would make a good illustration. The, voila! You led me right to it.

Word of the Day – “Seredipity” and for me? From one strong, love life, have survived’ woman to another? START naming your photos taken, instead of numbers! (SHEESH! Lord love a lemon! If you don’t name or put in a date, or leave yourself a breadcrumb of when/why/how/what it meant to ya?). HOW ELSE will you find that sumbeach one ya remember, but can’t find, just now???)

For one moment in time, I was the ‘saving grace” and then – – “That mouth/comment” that sometimes, folks think “Now why is she chewing me out???” LOL – – I trust you to take it like we are sitting somewhere, at some writer’s retreat, and the day of classes, forums, etc., are done – you have your glass, I have mine and I say, “FOR the love of all that is holy! WHY are you doing this to yourself???”

              and then….

“Um, okay – coffee in my room, tomorrow, before breakfast, bring your tech – give me an hour,a nd let us try to get ya set up where YOU CAN FIND that sumbeach (?!@#$%) photo YOU KNOW you shared, saved,, worked on – but can ya find it now??? Um, yeah – we can giggle and cuss over coffee just the same as we can over wine glasses, now, can’t we???

Sister of my heart, here and there – no relation as recognized by many – – LOL. <3.

LOL! OKIE Dokie then – MY job here, DONE! LOL. THanks for letting me know it is so – but here and there, along the way, I may, once in awhile, play a serendiptious part in the stage of your life? (Sigh – serendipty – I missed the ‘n’ last go around – ”

Which, for me, makes me laugh at myself – cuz when I miss a ‘n’ in typing/communicating?? with others – on various fronts?

I STILL, to this day – think of Monty Python works – ya know – the Knights that say “Ni!” –

Who, require “shrubbery” – in order for other’s to ‘pass” – – LMAO….

Sadly, the moment I realize, “well, crap, the ‘n’ missing – I think of coconuts, leaders, tall trees and knights, and travelers – LOL.

It’s the sky, that huge open blueness that seems to go on forever. Until I saw it myself, I didn’t understand. I’m not sure it makes a good pictures. How can you take a pictures of openness? Isn’t that contradictory? But when you see it, you also FEEL it.
