Still The Universe
Bleach all the colors from the flowers. Cancel out the sun.
Stay the music. Still the dance. Tell laughter it is done.
She will not walk this way again so all must cease to walk.
Her conversation’s over. The whole world must not talk.
Earth upon its axis should stop its ceaseless motion.
The cook must quiet his cooking pots, the chemist trash his potion.
The universe must cease to be now that my true love’s dead,
and I’ll lay myself beside her on our wedding bed.

powerful. How I felt about mom dying but as a kid didn’t have the words. Ann

How old were you when your mom died, Ann? The first line of the poem somehow got scrunched up beside the photo instead of with the poem. I’ve corrected it.

Shakespearean (if that’s a word) and very moving. It feels just like that, even now, years later.

Ohhhhh….this took my breath away. Literally! The emotion is visceral. So very powerful! October 14, 2013, I could not understand how the world outside the hospital walls could still be moving on. My husband, on life-support. Our family pleading with God to let him stay. I understand these feelings. For our family, my husband is a walking miracle…with us still and 100% cognitively okay. From that day forward, I wake up every morning, thankful for every day. But yes…..how can the world continue when something tragic happens. I can feel the anger of the person….lashing out…stop! Stop! Don’t you understand what’s happened? A powerful write to the image! Thank you for posting!

Great write, the last line represents well your intention, though seems a little too straight forward compared with the wonderful images conjured before that.
