The SOCS prompt is: batter/better/bitter/butter and although I know it
breaks the rules, I can’t resist reciting an old childhood tongue-twister:
Betty Botter bought a bit of bitter butter.
“But,” she said, “this butter’s bitter.
I can’t put it in my batter,
for if I put it in my batter,
it will make my batter bitter,
but if I buy some better butter,
it will make my batter better!”
So Betty Botter bought a bit of better butter
and made her batter better.
I’d answer (it is cute!) but my son & I, on our way to the beach, have been completely immobile for nearly 2 hours (on the toll road) This is the second time today😱😱😱 N

Is there a road block of protesters or just too much traffic? So sorry.

Was it a blockage by protestors or just heavy traffic? I replied earlier, but don’t see it here so will ask again.

Love this! I know a good amount of Dutch tongue twisters, but very few in English.

My Dad’s Mom and Father both came from Holland, so I imagine they knew a few as well. Both my dad and aunt spoke Dutch as well, so there was a good deal spoken at family dinners.

Ah that’s cool! Did your Dad or grandfather change the spelling of your last name (Dykstra)? I mean since the spelling with a y is rare here, it’s usually spelled Dijkstra.

Yes.. I think they probably changed it for him at Ellis Island. Many times of officials made the decision. And his name was changed from Wompka to Walter as well. My Grandmother’s maiden name was Boersma.

Haha, I had never heard this one before and it is certainly a tongue twister. I often wonder with things like this how many times people like me attempt to say it to perfection! hahahaha

I learned this from a children’s activity book my folks bought me when I was in Rochester, Minnesota waiting for an appointment at the Mayo Clinic. That is another funny story I’ll tell another time.
