The Couch Potato’s Creed

Though he who hesitates is lost,
impetuosity has its cost.
You should look before you leap,
because still waters might run deep.
Though early birds might get the worm,
rash actions trip up the infirm.

So all-in-all I think it’s better
if you aren’t a go-getter.
I guess the moral to this tale
is lest you lose or lest you flail,
if you’re up against the proverbial wall,
it’s best you do nothing at all!

I’ve discovered an interesting fact about Morrie.  He frequently sleeps with his eyes wide open!  In the above photo, taken at the house I rent at the beach, he’s on the couch, which I’d put a sheet on so a visiting friend could sleep there, but I snapped the below photo one morning when he had usurped my bed as well:

Ball Mortality Thanks to Morrie

He gores them and he punctures them and rips them on the bias,
demanding that we throw them from the pool or on the playas.

Every time we throw a ball, he’ll chase it and then snatch it,
and one time out of four, he’ll meet it in the air and catch it.

Then he will purloin it and we find when he is finished
somehow our tennis ball supply is rapidly diminished.

This radical behavior is supported by each caster
who realizes unthrown balls are the real disaster.

And so our local sports supply store profits from our loss
because we have to soon replace every ball we toss!

We didn’t really need another dog, but Frida was tired of being herded around by Diego and what could it hurt to find Diego a new playmate?

Morrie Gets Sand between His Toes

Morrie seemed to have no problems getting accustomed to the beach.  He’s even a bit less disturbed now when mom puts him on his long lead on the porch and beach or in his cage at home and leaves to have a life away from him.  Why he can’t go with is a story we’ll leave for another time. My mom got a man on the beach to make me this collar with my name and her phone number on it, so I guess any escape will be short-lived.
