In the wide prairies of South Dakota, the only narrow to be found is the narrowing of the road in the distance. It is a bit like perpetually driving into an invisible tunnel.

I feel like humming cowboy songs. Oh give me a home … Any buffaloes roaming? I would suspect yes, probably. Cattle. Sheep. Buffalo. Strange spectral figures.

The rancher next to us had buffalo. Remember Rawhide? They asked him to come be on one episode. He is long gone but his son still ranches there. I saw him at the reunion and I guess he got rid of the buffalo. There are buffalo in a huge reserve in Sheridan, though, right in the middle of town behind the city partk. The reserve covers all of a huge hill..and has buffalo and Elk. A baby was born just before I got there and I got to see it.

Lots of antelope on the range around Sheridan as well.

The man next to us raised Buffalo that kept trampling down my dad’s fences. They actually invited him to come do a walkon role in Rawhide! (The neighbor, not my dad.)

Nice way of seeing it. I wouldn’t have thought of it and now can’t help seeing it that way.

I love roads that do that, seemingly leading you on to infinity.
