That sounds wonderful. It reminds me of my grandparents’ farm, which had arched doors and wibdows because it was originally a Grange to a monastery. It was beautiful.
The farmhouse was sadly demolished. I have an ordinary photo which I can try and post in my blog, and I will write a bit about it. If you watch out for it you will be able to see it. I’ll try and do it tomorrow sometime as I need the help of a sighted person to post the photo. 😊
Hello there again. No I do not have an app that describes photos. I didn’t know you could get such a thing. It would be good though. I can get what people write read to me, but that is all. I must investigate that, unless you know of one. 😊
I don’t know of such an ap. I know you can get subtitles that describe the scenes and action in addition to the dialogue in some movies, but it seems as though they should have an ap or software that reads print.
I have lost it gradually since 2014 when I went into remission from cancer. The cancer drugs caused it. Since then it has got worse and worse, until now, all that I can see is a blur. I can’t see colours very well, and I can’t see faces. I can’t see my husband even when he is standing inches away from me. The way I cope with posting is to reverse the colours on the internet. I then have white on black, and I can then just about see the letters on the iPad keyboard. But I have problems reading things, and so I often use the Vouce Over thing on my iPad. It is however getting to the point where I can’t see anything at all, and I dread the day coming when I can no longer post.
Do you touch-type or is there a Braille keyboard that you could use? I know my keyboard has raised areas on my D and J keys to center your fingers for touch typing. Or, is there a keyboard where it will vocalize a key when you hit it–just to make sure you are still centered? I guess that would be rather distracting. Do you ever use voice to text? Then it would be a matter of getting set up to do the WP part of it. I’m sure you have investigated all of this, but if there is ever anything you’d like me to investigate or research for you, please let me know.
Oh bles you. Thankyou so much. I might take you up on that. We have tried looking at things but it is hard to sift through it all. I don’t use braille as it is hard to learn, andIam not young and there is no one to teach me it. I use an iPad at the moment, but we have bought a new laptop in the hopes thatwe might be able to put JAWS on it. I did touch type really well, but I have losta lot of feeling in my fingers through neuropathy from the chemo drugs. Trying to work through all the technical stuff that is available is really hard. JAWS is very expensive, but we would pay for it if necessary. Thankyou so much for your caring 😊
Yes it seems as though JAWS would be necessary. Will it let you do computer commands with speech as well? In other words, can it establish a WP page for you with just oral commands?
I don’t really know. JAWS can only be ysed with a laptop. Until now I have just ysed an iPad. Yes I think it will let you do computer comnands with speech. I think hubby knows a bit about it but we still need to do some more investigating
I have just made a post using my dictation software that is on my iPad, if you want to see what it does, it is entitked Experiment, Problem is, it stops after a cew sentences and won’t let you continue! It also often picks wirds up wringly! Lol. Just practsing anyway. Youare very kind in wanting to help. I really appreciate that 😊
Just woke up and will get hubby to help me later. My grandparents’ farm has an amazing history but we never knew it whilst theywere alive, unless Pop did without telling us. I only know because I researched it but it had been demolished by then. So sad.
So strange. It suddenly asked me if I wanted to follow you again, which I have been doing formerly or I wouldn’t have seen your story.. Oh well. Perhaps I hit a wrong button. Your post gave me a whole new definition of grange house. I just knew Grange as a farmer’s organization to foster new methods and thought of the Grange hall as where they met. The glimpse of its history that you have prompted me to investigate is very interesting.
I love arches. They are so graceful, and invite you to go through them into another world.

Almost all of the doors in my house are arches. And all the windows.

Lorraine, do you have an app that reads blogs to you and if so, does it describe the photos?

Yes you are right. I am still only just finding out what things are available to help blind people. There actually are some amazing things!

How recently have you lost your sight, Lorraine? You seem to cope with it beautifully.
