They are the social centers of a small town–
our excuse to get together
for as long as is comfortable
for both of us.
We trade hellos or more,
all on our way to someplace else, eventually.
No one has to worry about anyone
leaving too soon or staying too late.
Bars, churches and post offices–
places to meet those
you’ve known for a lifetime.
Each a holy place in its own right.
Note: This is very hurried–more later! On the road again.

What a beautiful thought.

Well said – and well written. I heard this amazing blues singer the other night and she sang a song she had written to and for her husband, who played guitar in her band. It was called “You are my holy man.” Great song.

Churches in small towns are not just places to pray. People in larger towns sometimes don’t get that. Nice post!

When you say “able to read you again,” is that because you are feeling better? Hope so. I’ve been missing seeing your writing…Welcome back. Judy

Yes Judy, had a cerebral stroke and lost four days completely! I only got my toys back yesterday. I think it was worse for the family. I have been told I may intersperse my works with passages of rubbish for a few weeks? How can they tell? Carry on having a great journey and do publish the book. Cheers. Anton

I just put “holy spaces” in the TBP file. Lovely read, perfect sentiment for hometown

OK, Rose–I must ask what the TBP file is. Hope it is a good thing! Your next sentence hints that it is, or perhaps I wouldn’t have asked..Thanks for commenting..Judy

My blog prompt site: “The Blog Propellant: Prompts to give your blog a little propulsion.” I thought you followed it, but with 4 blogs, I get followers and blogs confused! Anyway, it’s a good thing; an excellent prompt idea. And I always give credit where it’s due, so if I use it I’ll incl. a pingback to your site.

Thanks Judy, but I may have deserted my words. In four re-reads I have corrected 8 spellings, 7 grammatical and 12 typographical mistakes on Bedfordshire story, 🙂 Anton

But you see your errors!! And editing is an excellent mental exercise. I get that many errors on most stories myself…Have faith in your fine brain. It is still there, I’m sure.

So true of small towns. I avoid the post office– too many elderly gentlemen talking about their surgeries.

That sounds like a normal dinner party anymore! We need younger friends and to seal our lips about our own infirmities.
