I found them hanging out under this plant:
Okay, sorry. I wanted to give you the same experience I had when I first found them in two different areas and thought the dogs had killed them! Even after I picked them up, I was positive they were small snakes.

No idea what they are, but the blunt tail tells me they may be poisonous.

They do look like snakes. Now the question is, what kind of seeds/pods are they?

At first glance I thought they were made out of a rough fabric as one of your art projects. They are wonderful. What kind of a plant is that?
