Hurricane Patricia

I’m back home and all is well after a harrowing 24 hours.  We were lucky on this one!  I’ve been without electricity at my friend’s house so I’m still just going on second hand reports, but I am back in my house after being told to evacuate yesterday because of fear of landslides.  I’ll tell the story when I get it written but was asked by a friend to just post this fast post saying all is well.  Rain started up again but the 100 mph winds threatened never happened and barely a breeze now.  More later.  Thanks to all who inquired!  Judy

About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

Thanks, Anton. I saw a few old trees down but really the winds weren’t that high here. It blew down a light pole in my friend’s neighborhood so we were without electricity and the road was closed down due to live wires. A guy directed me under them safely but once the firemen came, the neighborhood was cut off.

La Manzanilla (sp) really got hit, along with Puerto Vallarta. I hope you’ll still be able to rent your beach place…and that it’s still standing. Patricia ended up being ranked a Category 5 hurricane, the largest ever in the eastern Pacific or Atlantic.

I’ve been told it was a miracle…it lifted up into the air before it got there and so there was less damage than expected–mostly to thousands of trees. The web cam that was watched around the world was one set up on the corner of the porch of the house I rent! The guy who sets it lives next door but his place is set so far back that he always put it on my railing. I guess all the news shows were showing footage from it. I missed it because Audrey’s electricity went out!

Thanks, Susan. People who will probably never meet in person can become so connected through words. Gives hope for the world, doesn’t it? I appreciate your good wishes! Judy

Hi Judy, That is really great news, by now you might have heard that reports all around are excellent and that considering the strength of the storm, the damages are less than were expected.
I enjoyed your photos, but one of those pictures looks like those men with shovels are mining for something very very deep. Morrie looks as interested in things as ever..
So glad your well and all is good. Thinking of you .

These were the first men none of the dogs barked at and they loved watching them. The men said they were fine and they didn’t want me to lock them in the garage or the house and were very careful not to let them out as they carried loads back and forth. Finally the mystery was explained when I discovered they had built a bodega in the house where Diego and Frida stayed while I was at the beach for two months last year. Turns out the dogs knew the men and Morrie just follows their lead and does everything they do!
