Cee’s Share Your World, Week 1, 2016

Every week, Cee asks those who answer her prompt to answer several questions.  Here are my answers for this week:

As a child, who was your favorite relative?

I adored my Uncle Rob, although I probably only saw him 5 or 6 times in my life. He was my mother’s sister’s husband and although he was the state superintendent of schools, he had a goofy and fun sense of humor. His grandkids talked about him setting his farts on fire, although I can’t testify to the veracity of this potential slander! He used to send us boxes of books that had been sent to him to review as potential textbooks for the schools. Living in a tiny town where the closest library was 60 miles away, it was a real thrill to have those books at our disposal. The last time I had congress with him was six years after his death during a Ouija Board session in Australia. I think I’ve told of that in another blog.

If you could be a tree or plant, what would you be?

A huge oak tree with a kid’s treehouse in it.

Would you prefer to awaken before dawn or before noon?

I like to wake up about 8 or 8:30—so the daily prompt has been posted––then to lie in bed and do the prompt!!

Would you like to sleep in a human size nest in a tree or be snuggled in a burrowed spot underground?

A human sized nest in a tree. More interesting and less lethal creatures seem to hang out in trees and I’d have a great view.

What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am so grateful to my sister and brother-in-law for providing a wonderful Xmas and for my longtime friends Patty and Marti for flying in to spend it with us. In the week coming up, I’m looking forward to having Chino come to install the cabinets in the doggie domain so it will be easier to feed my critters!

About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

Yes. my sister and I have put one together every Xmas since we were little.. My brother-in-law is now more addicted than we are, I think–as was the across-the-street-neighbor. A good way to keep people gathered together over one activity that doesn’t inhibit conversation.

I agree. Especially when recovering in hospital and you don’t feel up to communicating but feel that reading would be too shutting out; you can work on a jigsaw with others without having to talk much.
You must read Margaret Drabble’s “The Pattern In The Carpet: a Personal History with Jigsaws.” It is fascinating, all about games, but jigsaws in particular. The blurb says: This is a memoir like no other.
    Houghton Mifflin Harcourt; Boston/NY:2009

Now I’ll have to read it again.

I did but it isn’t available on Audiobooks! My eyes have gotten so bad that by the time I finish blogging, I just have to close them. My reading has been pretty much limited to Audiobooks for years.
