Mystery Flower of the Day, June 12, 2016

Version 2

I love the bud nubs in the background of this photo as much as the blossoms on the front. I took this down in the garden and should remember what this flower is but alas, I don’t.

It is a flower. When my folks thought we were going to move, they made me join “Job’s Daughters” a girl’s auxilliary of Eastern Star or Rebekkah or one of those Masonic spinoffs. Our flower was the lily of the valley. In one ceremony I had to carry a styrofoam cross covered with plastic lily of the valleys and my older sister teased me unmercifully saying, “Now I know what our secrets are. You are grave robbers!” I must say I hated it. I had to go to a neighboring town where all the girls hated girls from my town and to memorize all this gobbledegook. And I’m a terrible memorizer. I just find it too boring. Girls who were secretly delighted I’d screwed up would rush over afterwards and say, “What happened?” Only time they ever spoke to me. Ha. Well that’s a lot of reflection on a simple question. Tiny bell shaped flowers attached to each side all the way up a long stem. Phew.

Not a Lilly, they don’t have those appended side buds and pods. (I don’t think, but that may be only over here). But what a lovely comment you made , Judy. Don’t we all wish we could remember things we loved and knew and suddenly can’t recall them even to comment on their beauty. My life story I promise you ! 🙂 Anton

I know but boy you remembered a lot of words for that last grab bag challenge!! I think you just need a modicum of zaniness to bring out your memory. Yes I know they aren’t white coral bells, just a fast association..

They really do, Gaya. I’m wondering if those leaves are from another plant that these flowers are peeking up through. For awhile I thought they might also be asparagus fern blossoms in extreme closeup. I have so many plants hidden away in different places that when I am on a photo expedition I sometimes forget where I found a certain bloom.. then when I go looking for it it is out of bloom so I just have to wait for serendipity to present it to me again. Thanks for helping me on my mystery search.
