Rope Ladder
You call out from the island of your sleep,
each word at first garbled,
as though caught in quicksand.
Beside you in this room,
I waken to your shouted words:
“Is there any window in this room?”
and I am given ingress to your dreams,
even as each new early morning declaration
becomes a strong sure stroke towards your escape from them.
a very clever and esoteric use of the prompt Judy. Would that I could get as close to my dreams as you seem to wish to distance yourself from – whose? Anton

My niece and I have slept in the same room for the past two nights and she shouts out from her sleep frequently–entire sentences.

Really LIKE this one! Being one who dreams vividly myself, I can empathize with that last line about trying to escape from them once the dreamer wakes. I’ve had dreams where, in my dream I wake up, understand that I was just dreaming, and try to get up — but can’t.
