Hemingway
Because he liked that lost sensation,
(that loss-of-memory elation
that comes from excess of libation)
he nightly staged that transformation
that ended all his perturbation,
thereby taking a vacation
from the quest for information
to seed his novel’s inspiration.
As he imbibed in a rash ration
of this liquid excitation,
it also raised the consternation
of friends of long association
who watched the sad continuation
of his fine mind’s alteration
as he drank to satiation
and finally, to his tale’s cessation.
Ernest Hemingway on the topic of whiskey:
“Never delay kissing a pretty girl or opening a bottle of whiskey.”
The prompt word today was “Transformation.”
Er … like … the man was a drunk? But he was a very ENTHUSIASTIC drunk. Not one of those shy, secret drinkers. Hemingway knew HOW to DRINK 🙂

Bravo. Papa Hemmingway is raising a glass in your honor Judy. Cheers. Anyone who can chug a glass of beer at 5 a.m. and produce thought provoking works as he did should be toasted and saluted. Great work. 🙂

Yes. I read that he preferred a steady rate of consumption to make things interesting.

Hic. I’ll drink to that. I remember also imbibing whenever I had a tough news story to write to a deadline. The more I gulped down the more the words seemed to flow. All was right with the world UNTIL the writing ended and the hangover began. I did not go back and bite the hair of the dog. Slogged through the next few days beary eyed but content. 🙂 Cheers Judy.

…and finally to his tale’s cessation. Sad to say. 😦

Thank you for the Hemingway post, all that comes from excess libation. It took me on a time machine trip, back a few dozen years. Oooh that scotch tasted soooo good!!!

It does not detract from a lovely poem, yet … I happen to prefer Irish …. yet. Uisce beatha Irish or uisge-beatha Scots, even Aqua vitae Latin. Jamiesons the best! IMO, Cheers Jamie.

I’m not fond of Scotch at all, but keep it around for one friend who drinks it. I aim to please. I used to be a bourbon girl. Now I’m an anejo rum girl.

Thanks, Judy. Not sure what anejo rum is? I don’t drink anymore. Leastwise, I try not to. I wish to keep my liver around, since I have other health issues. …. sigh! When I do drink alcohol it’s usually beer. I have 4 craft breweries within a mile and there are plenty more here in the peninsula. So, I do not lack for temptations. I know Mr. Hemingway had the reputation for being “manly”. That’s always been trivial for me. Loved the poem though, like many others. Cheers Jamie
