Three Elevenies: NaPoWriMo 2017, Day 23

An elevenie is an eleven-word poem of five lines, with each line performing a specific task in the poem. The first line is one word, a noun. The second line is two words that explain what the noun in the first line does, the third line explains where the noun is in three words, the fourth line provides further explanation in four words, and the fifth line concludes with one word that sums up the feeling or result of the first line’s noun being what it is and where it is.

Here are mine:

Minds
collect facts
in your head
for remembering when needed,
perhaps.

Heads
collect hats
that they store
on racks, dreaming of
outings.

Clouds
hoard drops
meant for seedlings
but rain on parades
instead.

About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

    Judy,
I believed it, you have just shocked me to the soul. I know exactly where you are coming from because I have the same feelings about this world situation today. There is absolutely nothing we can do about it, the ship of state seems to have been commandeered by Pirates. Our only hope is that it does not run aground or become overturned by a huge tsunami. I learned long ago, I could not let myself be overcome with anything that I do not have control over. The sick feeling in the pit of your stomach is being shared by me and millions more all over this world. We have no choice left but to wait, look to a brighter future with hope and encourage, to look Beyond today, or we have already perished. The nut cases at both ends of the religious Spectrum are in a mad rush to bring on Armageddon. This dream has driven them crazy. I cannot help but believe Armageddon will come at a time not chosen by these religious zealots. I feel just as you do about blogging, it doesn’t seem worthwhile now, the joy of sharing has been sucked out of it. The negative news media seeks only sensationalism. Politicians sold their souls to multinational interest. Profits now, today, trump ‘odd word’ the world’s future survival.

But.. we have all been brought together and I hope that bond lasts. Why don’t you take a vacation as well and go fishing in that big lake you love that we share memories of.. well, different memories, but the same lake.

I would just love to go fishing but all I have now is fishing memories. My wife and I both got influenza A, a little over a month ago spent three days in the hospital and then about a month recuperating in the old folks care and Rehab Center. We’ve been home for three days now,
“a great feeling.” I know there’s no way I could spend the rest of my days in that Care Center. All they are is a holding place for people who haven’t quite died yet, they are constantly understaffed. That sounds awfully negative but true. We all need a slight Readjustment, time out, from time to time. It looks like we’re both come two the same destination at the same time, just be thankful you’re not in a nursing care facility, stay active and young at heart until your last breath. Best wishes to you and your little dogs.

I think a lot about that, Leland. That’s one reason I want to stay in Mexico because for less than you’d spend in a care facility, you can have a caregiver stay with you. Doctors make house calls, as do nurses. I hope you are soon feeling even better. xo

Thank you very much, blogging friends like you is what’s keeping me going right now. It would be so easy to just throw in the towel and say enough is enough, but life is still special to me, even on my worst days. I will feel there is some purpose until my last breath, I do believe. Yes, the cost of being a senior citizen in the USA is downright robbery. I know a fellow who had a very large farm, he was in the Care Center a little less than a year before he died. On his last month, he made the statement. “One more month and the farm will be gone and it was!” That does take away your incentive to fight on. I want to wish you all the best as you approach the Golden Years. I only know you from your writing, you show you have lots of South Dakota grit. You you have many more good years to go. Best wishes. XOXO
