Nyctophilia
I love the night. I love the night.
So personal and sparse of light.
Naught to stay my straying feet
in their journey towards a late night treat.
No one to interrupt my thinking
or to disapprove my drinking.
No one knocking at my door.
No one to put a bra on for.
I love the darkness and the calm
of blackness spreading like a balm
cushioning the obligations
and the constant consternations
of the cluttered daylight world
with all its busy fuss unfurled.
Though daylight’s pleasures you may recite,
Still, stubbornly, I prefer night!
I love this night poem on this late, late night.

I had forgotten that you, too, were a nyctophile. Sounds nasty, doesn’t it?

I’m a creature of the light, though the evening scenes in your photos are appealing. I do like your poem even though I don’t like the night — nor the things that go cre-e-eak in the night.
In fact, being hard of hearing, I fear someone suddenly appearing in my room with no warning cre-e-eak. 😦

Thanks why we have pets, right? Our cats are scardies; if I see them make a mad dash for the bathroom vanity and hide in the cupboard, I know someone’s knocking on the door. 🙂

Mine used to hide in the vanity as well. They could get into the drawers from behind by climbing onto some built in shelves on the side. Now they still try but don’t fit. They have broken everything I’ve tried to put on those shelves, though.

Our cats can do yours one better. The one side of our vanity is open to the hot water heater closet. the dryer vent ran through this space, under the trailer. When Angus was young he knocked the dryer vent off somehow so he could get down through that opening onto the ground below the trailer. When Angus & Pookie are scared, being still agile, they can disappear into what we call “the nether world” or “the basement.”

I have a video somewhere of my 4 tiny kittens breaking into my house through the bathroom window which had glass slats, bars and a screen. It was incredible team work. I switched info to a new computer and somehow lost it before I could get it on YouTube or my blog. I have faith it exists somewhere I haven’t thought of. If I find it, I will post it. Sounds like our cats our a match for each other.
