The NaPoWriMo post is: Today, write a poem that emphasizes the power of “if,” of the woulds and coulds and shoulds of the world.

Loved this, so true

I don’t feel cheated. I did what I wanted when I wanted to do it. We really did have a LOT of fun for many years and having a quieter life now is not a loss. We are simply older and don’t have the energy to hustle through complicated vacations. I don’t want the airplanes or the endless rides in cars. I love people and seeing interesting places, but I’m just as happy at home.

So glad to hear this, Marilyn. Obviously, I’m starting to feel the same way but part of me still pulls….

Whew. Powerful poem! Over my life, I’ve learned that “wherever I go, there I am.” AND there’s the fact that where I landed is an incredibly fascinating place. One thing that makes it OK is having visited Switzerland a few years ago and going up the Jungfrau Ban to the Eiger and seeing how it had changed in 20 years, all for tourists. That’s not a world I would have chosen to visit. The mountains are just standing there going “whatever” and I thought “Good point.” ❤

I, too, am so glad I traveled before it became the norm.

Me too. ❤ I'm deeply grateful I was in China when I was.

I was in Hong Kong in 1968 and in Mainland China in 1976, I think.. it was just before and just after normalization so no changes yet. I agree. Glad I was there before modernization.

Mind-bending. Pretending is one half of the ifs…
I what-if’ed a little too, but only because they asked for it. Plus some nighttime photos:
