I took my visiting friend Jane to see this very old Hacienda that was purchased by an American couple and established as a residence for children who might otherwise be unable to attend school. One hundred percent of the children accepted for residence go to college. An amazing statistic. As you can see, although I had a bit of trouble finding my way to it, it was well worth the trouble. I hadn’t been here for ten years or more, but as you can see, it is beautifully maintained and preserved. So, make your way down the pathways and through the arches of Huejotitan with me. As usual, click on the first photo to enlarge all.
It’s been a loong time since I’ve done this challenge. Don’t know why. For Cee’s Which Way Challenge.
It’s beautiful.

The place is gorgeous, but of course, it’s the children that grabbed my attention.

As they should. They had all gone home for vacation except for two who were on break from University and Tech school. They must have had no place else to go.

“No place else to go” breaks my heart, but it’s so good that they have this place,

Perhaps they just came back because they considered it to be home..The one young man was studying horticulture and showed us the irrigated plot he was setting up to grow organic vegetables. That’s the “maze” the dog is standing in. They’ll both eat the veggies and sell them. They also have fields around the hacienda that they either maintain or rent out. The people et them up well.

I thought the maze was purely decorative. That’s what I mean; those who run this program have managed to make it home for children. It’s wonderful!

What a beautiful place for the children to learn. Do they attend college in Mexico, or elsewhere? Coincidentally, I’ve been wondering recently how Agustin is doing with his summer school and camp?

They did the two week art camp in the garden part of his restaurant. I taught projects for three days–bracelet making and egg carton flowers. The kids were enthusiastic and well-behaved. I think they loved it. I should post photos.. I will.

Thanks for posting those photos of the art camp! The kids looked as if they enjoyed what they were doing, and proud of what they had made! I’m glad Agustin is still helping them — he really has some strong and good ideas!
