Mourning Matins
Lately,
it is nightbirds
who prematurely voice
the matins of my day.
I keep knocking myself
against hard surfaces
and all my wounds
are in the shapes of hearts.
Anyone more emotional than you
might feel my pain.
This caring for you
is not simple anymore.
I arise too early
and it makes the day too long.
Prompt words for today are simplicity, anyone, emotional, matinal and caring. Also, for dVerse Poets and Bird of the Day.
Beautiful!

I love this poem, and read it to my mother (who keeps bringing me mystifying bruises). My favorite line: “I keep knocking myself
against hard surfaces
and all my wounds
are in the shapes of hearts.”

It gets easier to bruise as you get older. i can just bump against something and wound myself..

I really do have a wound in the shape of a heart on my arm. Took a photo but it seemed a bit macabre to post it..so I chose a different image as an illustration.

I really love this one. It’s unlike your usual pieces, but you wrote it well, and it speaks to me.

Somehow in sleeplessness everything converges. There is so much between the lines here. (K)

I like the description of wounds being in the shape of hearts and the last two lines describing rising early as making the day too long.

This is a situation way too many women ends up in… to have to care for someone, to be the cushion for their wounds, and end up being bruised herself.

Bravo. You have elegantly and beautifully summed up the way that all relationships profoundly affect us all. Ever caring, ever hoping , and ever loving. Your symbolism is well chosen. Words definitely written from the heart.
