   Oh I ADORE cormorants! There is a big high electricity pylon near here where they often sit. We love them, but most people don’t like cormorants for some reason. I think they are amazing

   Great shots Judy, in Asia they tie a long string around the neck and use them as fisherman. Once they catch the fish the cormorant is hauled back in to retrieve the fish before he can swallow it.

      Like they are trimming the tree…egrets do the same thing. I’ve seen them literally cover every branch of a tree.

   When the herons were so numerous at Dana Point, there was one tree that seemed to be a hangout for cormorants. I believe I took a few photos at the time, but they tend to just sit there, and aren’t as interesting to watch as the herons. The first thing I ever learned about cormorants was, as CalmKate mentioned, the Asians prevent them from swallowing the fish they catch — we learned that they place a ring around the bird’s neck — I like the idea of a string that they can use to reel in the bird/fish — interesting symbiosis!
