I received this posting from my friend Rachel McMillan. It directly relates to the reblog I just did of Forgottenman’s posting of the “I’m mad as Hell and I’m not gonna put up with it anymore” post as well as the next one I’m going to post. It is time people acted. Corporations, lawmakers and institutions are not going to do it for them without the push of the people.

About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

This deforestation is something that grieves me, but I’ve read that Brazilian official say (something to the effect that) “You Americans did the same with your forests and got rich. We just want to make money, too, and you’re griping. Physician heal thyself.”
How would you answer that? The rain forest is vital to the climate of the planet, but just think of the hardwood forests cut down in the East. And farmers here — or in the US — wouldn’t be happy if someone said all their good farmland should be planted to trees again.

The Amazon rainforests are critical not only to the supply of oxygen for the planet. Additionally, though, the rainforest is critical to international commerce — if the rainforest dies, there will be insufficient water to maintain the operation of the Panama Canal!
