A doughty old bird, he strides and he gobbles
over the barnyard and over the cobbles.
While other birds scatter and rush out of sight
into foggy day vapors or into the night,
he has not a fear of this Thanksgiving blight
with its motifs of turkey and dressing and pie,
for year after year, he just seems to get by.
Stretching his neck out toward all on his beat,
he is lord of the manor and too tough to eat.
He is a survivor, like me! Wonderful poem!

He looks it, too. Nothing tasty-looking about him. 🙂

He was strutting through the neighborhood in Sheridan, Wyoming at the head of a band of “wild” turkeys.

No.. if we saw turkeys on the hoof more we probably wouldn’t enjoy our meal so much.

That’s one tough old bird! His demeanor tells all! I know I’d hesitate to approach him…and yeah. He wouldn’t be good for anything but stew.

I know just the turkey! He chases Lucy dog whenever we go to his farm for eggs. Great poem, Judy!

Lucy and I have three walkies a day, we get about 6 miles in average. She seems to think being chased by the turkey is fun though. She play bows him and teases him just as much.

At least she’s distracting him from chasing you, Mason.

Happy Thanksgiving! Great prose! Talking abut Turkey. My Thanksgiving message to my American friends is to be like a wild Turkey. I am sure you will be a bit puzzled by this message. I invite you to read the full article I wrote on this subject to understand my Thanksgiving Message – https://authorjoannereed.net/thanksgiving-message-be-like-a-wild-turkey/. I also talked about this beautiful tradition of granting a pardon to a lucky Turkey started by President Lincoln in my article. Feel free to check it out!
