Nature Lesson
(A Discourse with Bee and Hummingbird)
It has a beauty most divine,
that flower swinging from the vine,
and yet the hummingbird and bee
come not to ogle but to dine.
The flower swinging from the vine
has a nectar sweet as wine
with a savor most divine.
And yet the hummingbird and bee
must know that it belongs to me—
theirs not to savor but just to see.
Come not to ogle but to dine?
It seems the lesson learned is mine.
What nature’s given is also thine.

I like the rhyme scheme here used to emphasise the theme of your reflections: what is beauty to us means survival to another (and also, ultimately, to us!)

Both you and Jade have nature telling us what’s what with this prompt! I love this switch of perspective.

Love the rhyme here Judy. And I love the perspective you bring here. Ain’t it the truth everything in life that is natural belongs to everyone and everything. The concept of owning the earth is a fallacy. So well written this piece beautiful!
