Not all plumerias have a scent. Some don’t smell at all until picked and floated in water, when they have a mild scent. I am so happy that my beautiful plumeria tree is of this scentless variety, since I am allergic to their scent. Needless to say, I never pluck them and float them in water, but since I can see the tree from my writing desk, living room, terrace and hammock, there is no need. I can enjoy their view with flowers still intact!

I think only the white ones are scented

I just walked by a tree with creamy yellow flowers rimmed with hot pink and they were stinky! All flower smells are stinky to me… I can’t figure out why people like to sniff flowers. Right up there with eating liver or brains or tripe. How could they???

Plumeria are my favorite flower. I didn’t know their name in English the whole time I lived where I could grow them. I only knew the Chinese word for them, the white ones with yellow centers, Ji Dan Hua — chicken egg flower. I don’t think all of our smellers are the same. 😀

Mine are late in blooming this year, the weather has been the cause, first too cold and now too hot and dry.
