About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

Yes.. a little less far–flung but she came to visit me in Australia and Africa and went back several times on photo safaris with her husband afterwards.

What a delightful, darling, little village – even if Wikipedia insists that it is a city, because it is the County seat. According to Wiki it has shrunk a bit since you left. Apparently you were not the only one who left. Wiki gives its current population at just under 500.

Having the (old) highway as its main street helped ensure a generous road allowance. Southampton’s main street – High Street, beside which, the house I was born in still stands, since 1850 – was laid out as a grand entrance avenue in from the old highway.

When a new bridge further down the river was built, the highway was diverted through town. Already existing buildings squeezed it in, making the main drag far wider than the highway. Southampton has been a lakeport and railhead, a furniture manufacturing center, and has settled into being a retirement community.

It had a population of 1800+ when I was a boy. I remember being proud and excited when it reached 2000. Nowadays, more than 3800, mostly old fogies like us, comfortably enjoy the sun and sand there, though possibly not the ‘lake effect’ winter snows.

Thanx for frequenting my blogsite, and thanx for sharing your hometown, and letting me share mine with you.

Hi Anton… Good to see you.. I am hung up in the VIP lounge in Guad. My flight has been delayed 4 hours here and I got here 3 hours early… so 7 hours wait and 7 more in Dallas Ft. Worth!!! At least they gave me a pass to the lounge.

Wow your sister looks amazing. She reminds me of my aunt who never seemed to age. In her final months at age 88 she didn’t wear a stitch of make-up and I realized one day that she must have had her eyebrows permanently penciled in as a tattoo because they were always perfect.
