Beginning or Ending? For FOTD Sept 19, 2023

I can’t decide whether this was a flower whose petals had fallen or one that hadn’t yet budded out. I meant to keep checking it, but life intervened and I forgot to. What do you think?

Wow, once more you have completely confused me. When I do not know the size, it is sometimes difficult to understand. The sepals of calyx seem clear enough, so that would be an opening flower bud, but of what~? Is it tiny or huge~? There are times, like in milkweed when we see the “fruit” within the center of the flower. Wow don’t do that to us~!

It was about an inch across. I went out and looked at the same plant and it was no longer there but I took some photos of buds about to open and they were pointed and only 1/2 inch across, so I think this is the part left after the flower has died and fallen off. I’ll publish more photos of the other stages tomorrow and you can give your opinion. Then I’ll try to remember to photograph the sepals after the petals have fallen on the present flower. Phew. Then wonder what good it will do us once we’ve solve the mystery!

It looks like it is a chinese hibiscus and that is what it looks like after the petals and stamens have fallen off. At least that is what my plant identifier is telling me. It is a way COOL photo. 😀 😀
