Those berries look delicious, but don’t taste!  They are the berries of the lantana plant whose beautiful flowers belie the fact that its berries are poisonous enough to kill a dog. I dug up all the lantana bushes in my backyard because the dogs were eating even the flowers!  Just yesterday I discovered this plant growing on my lower lot, and although it is still very small, here they actually can grow into trees. Since I don’t let the dogs onto the lower lot (except for when Coco detects that I am down there and so jumps down there) I am letting this plant remain. I must admit that when I first saw the berries, I didn’t notice the bloom and thought they were blackberries and almost picked one to taste!  Shhh. Don’t tell.

I’m slowing down now that I’m almost 84. In fact, right about now I need a nap. I’v e never taken naps willingly till this year. You’re one of the most interesting people I’ve ever known and I’m proud of what you accomplish. I’ll follow as much as i can I don’t know how you do it! Love you always.

Ann you have always been so supportive..especially when you gave Gretchen such a wonderful home and love for so long. And now you’ve given me a great name for my lot which just may be the one I choose. I’ve noticed a change over the past few years as well. I can’t believe I’m 76! And I had no idea you were older than I was. Bob would be 90 if he had lived and I’m 6 years older than he was when he died.

76 is really young! I didn’t start feeling my older age until the last years. Quite lucky. I’m happy I still write and do art and swim and walk the dog but I’ve turned over the grocery shopping and cooking to my son. Gee whizzz, that about broke my heart. And I have a cleaning lady once a month who does floors. Right now my main project is cleaning the garage. 17 years of detritus! All mine to take care of. Not fair. Most of the junque is Tony’s. It is hard to get rid of things I love but most of my junk is in my room. It’s precious Old photos, scrapbooks, manuscripts. Art. And I have a horse statue collection. The time has come to let go.

Try not to hate me that I have a housecleaner who comes three times a week, 10 hours total.. It is just wonderful. Like having a wife. And, she is clairvoyant and intuitive and a dear. She knows what I need before I know! She immediately started doing all my laundry and ironing as well and loves to cook. I may soon turn more of that over to her. All of this for less than housecleaners probably charge for 2 1/2 hours in the states now. And I pay five times the Mexican minimum wage!!!

I don’t know when. Where. Or how my replies are getting through. O well. I’m such an ignorant thing with tech. If I didn’t love to write Read, View beauty that isn’t right in front of me , I wouldn’t bother. But viewing and connecting is so essential to my soul. Next life I get a wife. Maybe two. Maybe three. Yours sounds perfect. I don’t hate you but I often envy you. To have this kind of life, Judy, you had to be very very brave. Most people wouldn’t have continued with the Mexican adventure after losing a spouse. You not only continued, you have thrived in most awesome ways. Btw, you look so great and yes, a lot like your mom. I see Pattis picture once a year on their Xmas card. She looks like Hollywood. That’s not why I don’t send her a Xmas card though. I don’t do that real true card exchange anymore. Tell her I’m sorry. I love getting hers. It used to be one of my favorite things, pre-internet, It took a lot of time and Ioved it but now I just don’t. Could it be my arthritis or the ridiculous cost of stamps or my limiting my activities to those that I label MUST. ? You two dykstra women were and are so important in my life. i’d say I’m blessed but I don’t talk that way cuz I think everyone should be equally blessed. Love you.

I haven’t done cards or any mail via post in 22 years. I used to do a Xmas letter which was fun in making me sum up the year but now all my communication is via the internet and phone. I actually don’t miss mail, although Daren and Eric sent me Xmas cards for years.. up until two years ago, or so. One stepdaughter did, as well, but all have now given up on me. Daren and Eric have said they’d visit countless times but never have.
