Sacrifice
Some people give their lives to it,
And others never do––
Conditions never calling for
Rash actions to ensue.
I’ve held onto my life because
Fate never asked me to
Immolate myself to save
Child, soldier, Jew,
Ensuring that I remain
Securely in life’s queue.
I don’t think sacrifice has been anything I’ve had to do much of in my life, short of occasionally knowingly giving someone the last pork chop or the biggest piece of cake. Perhaps this is because I had no children.
I can think of only one big potential sacrifice I made in my life and that is something I will not speak of–mainly because people it might affect are still alive. So, in lieu of writing a personal essay or poem on this topic, I invite you to read an article about the top ten most inspiring self sacrifices. You can go HERE to read it.
A wonderful acrostic poem Judy.

A fine poem, Judy. I, too, will not write about mine

Thanks, Judy, very well expressed, and the photo gave me memories of what I saw of what the Jews were doing to the Palestinians. I am not against either of them, but I do understand things that others around the world do not even know about. I have seen those tall fences and would not want to be pinned up behind one like an animal.
Maybe “Compassion” would be a good sub-tidal for that poem. We must have it for both sides of this situation, and America, and even the Pope, did not have it for the Jews when the Nazis were doing this, and why I still have a soft spot for the Swiss, so we should now have it for the Palestinians when they are faced with the same thing.
Like your poem, I will always take sides for the downtrodden. Biden for “political reasons” made a serious mistake, but is now trying to “fix” it, maybe too late. We should be aiding to help, not to kill, regardless of what the appearance may be. Both sides have so much innocent blood on their hands~! And yes a third party is involved, but it will take a third party to bring it to an end, and we could be party to that.

Sam… what this Iranian Muslim woman has to say about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is the best view of the matter I’ve ever seen. It is in David’s post here: https://skepticskaddish.com/2023/11/29/hyphen-or-no-hyphen/

I wonder… will we ever be asked for a sacrifice (a true one)… it seemed unreal for such a long time, but maybe the day will come for a choice.

We all are being asked again and again but we don’t recognize the message.
