Poinsettias: For FOTD Dec 10, 2023

How do Poinsettias know that Christmas is coming? Mine bloom regularly every year in order to be exactly at their zenith of bloom on Christmas day.

They are better than I am, I just noticed that it is only about two weeks away~! Where did 2023 go~? I need to go out and get a pointsetta to brighten up my home, the usual green plants that I bring in look terrible after that awful Summer.

I have not been invited anywhere yet, Ha, ha~! Judy lately my kids do their own thing with their kids and holidays do not mean as much as they once did. So Sad, only sweet memories~! I do not even decorate as much when I am alone, But I may go on the front porch and hose off that plastic perennial Christmas reef hanging there. I have lazer lights that light up the live oaks all around my house and I turn them on, they blink red, green and white up in the trees like Christmas Tree lights and are beautiful at night. I have the same light effect in my Man cave. For several years I have brought a little kumquat tree in that has the fruit that ripens at Christmas time, I string those tiny lights on it and that is my effort. But that damn hot summer almost killed it, no blossoms, no fruit, and so no Christmas tree… Though I must have three million six hundred and forty junipers growing on my place. Maybe I will make prime rib and find a bridge person to come help me eat it.

Don’t feel sorry for me, I have very happy memories of past Christmases~! Maybe if you are alone too, we can talk on the phone..

I like the thought of your finding a bridge person to come help you eat your feast. I take it you mean a person who lives under a bridge. I’m spending Xmas with two friends and the two daughters of one of them. And I know you have many happy memories!

My Son is on his way our here right now with one of my two grandsons and we will go out to eat at a place where the tables are under the trees and Tami can come with me. I like it that way, He calls when he turns off at my road and I just meet him there. He and his wife are split up and so Christmas is less “Christ” and more “Mess” as far as those grandkids and my Son’s go. The other son Casimir “Cass” has been sick and can not travel right now. My going there would just put more worry on him and his wife. I am sure under the circumstances they will have “takeout”. I used the word “bridge people” loosely, I know several places and people who live alone and need someone to think about them. I have in the past gone to retirement homes the shelters, but it is so depressing, I try not to do it at Christmas when they have their own in-house programs. Ginny is in the Austin area right now but I am sure she will have returned to Minneapolis by Christmas.
