Century Plant or American Agave. Thanks, I.J. and Forgottenman for solving the mystery.

I can’t for the life of me remember what this flower is. Does anyone else know?

Google Lens suggests it might be Agave desmettiana.

Not a century plant? Or maybe a different agave

I think you are right! I think it is a Century Plant well past its first blooming. Thanks so much for your research. It is so maddening not to know the name of a plant and this one died out a while ago so I haven’t seen the bloom in a long time. Found this in my archives and realized I’d never posted it so slipped it in here.

Century plants tend to die after the blooming, or at least need a lot of care to keep alive. I had one in our garden during the pandemic lockdown, when there was nothing much to do except check on it every day 🙂

It was indeed. I’ve now named it in my blog..Not the agave variety Forgottenman named, but American Agave or Century plant.

Is that what ends up in a bottle in my cupboard?

No. different sort of agave. If you are talking about tequila, it is made only from blue agave.

No, Blue Agave Syrup that goes into many of my recipes. Tequila is not my thing, sorry.

Don’t apologize. It wasn’t an expectation. Just a query. I use agave syrup as well.

My thing is rum in drinks and baking and cognac as a post-meal treat, occasionally.

Rum used to be my drink of choice until I gave up Diet Coke. Now I’m a gin gal. Or sangria, but only my own recipe.

Yes on Sangria, and also only my own recipe.

It is called… A very pretty yellow flower. It may be a pretty yellow plant. It for sure is a very beautiful photo. You’re an artist with a camera. My brother could have told you. He even knew every weed. May he rip. I miss him.
